Competitor as Product

In a Multi-Product workspace, each competitor is a specific competing product with its own parent company - not just a company name. Setting the company right is what keeps your scores accurate.

Why the company field matters

When many vendors sell products in the same category, "MFA" or "SSO" on its own tells the model nothing about who. Giving each competitor product its parent company lets Gracker:

  • credit a mention when either the product name ("Auth0") or the parent company ("Okta") appears,
  • keep bare generic category words ("SSO", "MFA") from counting as a win for any vendor,
  • keep known companies out of Discovered Entities, so that list only surfaces genuinely new vendors.

Without the company set, a competitor whose product name is close to a category word can be under-counted - or a company mention can be misread.

Setting up a competitor product

  1. Open Competitors for the product in scope.
  2. Add the competing product - use its real, distinctive product name (not the category).
  3. Set the parent company - the vendor that makes it.
  4. Add the domain and any aliases the product is known by.
  5. Save - future analysis credits mentions of that product or its company correctly, and past runs read consistently.
Aliases help most when a product goes by a short name or an older brand - add every name buyers and AI answers actually use.

Limits & gotchas

  • This applies to Multi-Product workspaces. In Multi-Brand, competitors are companies/brands and there's no separate product-vs-company distinction.
  • A generic product name (a bare category word) will register few mentions - lean on a distinctive name plus aliases.
  • Spotted a vendor you don't track yet? Promote it from Discovered Entities so it's scored going forward.
