Competitor Analysis

Competitor Analysis

Once a competitor is tracked, GrackerAI compares every signal it collects about you against them automatically. This page covers how to read that comparison. To add or manage tracked competitors, see Competitors.

Competitive Dominance

A mention-share score computed for every analysed response: of all the mentions in that response, how much of the conversation competitors are taking versus you. A higher score means competitors are picking up a bigger share of the mentions than you are.

It's a share-of-voice signal, not a weighted judgment of sentiment or position - check Sentiment & Position separately for that. At the aggregate level, the same story is told by the Share of Voice and Win Rate views below.

A competitor you've never worried about in sales can still have a high dominance score here. AI conversations and sales conversations don't always agree - trust the data over intuition.

Comparative Phrases

When AI directly compares you to a competitor in a response, it uses specific comparative language - "faster than", "less expensive than", "harder to set up than". GrackerAI captures that phrasing on the individual mention - open a response and check its Mentions tab to see it.

Read these to understand exactly how AI frames the trade-off between you and each competitor - it's often more specific and more actionable than sentiment alone, because it tells you the axis of comparison, not just whether it was favourable.

Co-occurrences

How often a competitor appears in the same response as you, versus appearing in response to the same prompt on its own. Frequent co-occurrence means AI treats you as directly comparable options; rare co-occurrence on shared prompts can mean AI reaches for one of you first and doesn't feel the need to mention the other. See the pairings for any single response on its Co-occur tab.

Share of Voice, Win Rate & Position Battle

The dashboard's Competitors tab is where these three views live, one row per tracked competitor.

Share of Voice - Totals

A bar chart of total mentions per entity across the window - your brand and each tracked competitor, side by side. Use it as the first read on who's dominating the AI conversation before drilling into any one matchup.

Win Rate vs Competitors - Head-to-Head

Your win rate against each tracked competitor: for every response where you and a competitor could both have appeared, whether you appeared alone (a win), the competitor appeared alone (a loss), both appeared, or neither did. Win Rate rolls those outcomes into a single percentage per competitor, so you can sort to find who you're consistently losing to.

BucketWhat It Means
BothYou and the competitor were both mentioned
Brand OnlyOnly you were mentioned - a win
Competitor OnlyOnly the competitor was mentioned - a loss
NeitherNeither of you were mentioned

Click through any of the Both / Brand Only / Competitor Only / Neither counts to open the underlying list of responses behind that number - the list to hand to content or product marketing as a prioritised comparison-content backlog.

Mention Order vs Competitors - Position Battle

Average and best position percentile for you and each tracked competitor, alongside mention count. Lower percentile means earlier in the response - AI led with that brand first, which reads as the stronger recommendation independent of what was actually said.

This is related to, but distinct from, the Position Distribution (Hero / Middle / Tail tiers) on Sentiment & Position: that view tracks where your own mentions land over time, while Position Battle here is a head-to-head comparison of position against each specific tracked competitor.

Common Workflows

Competitor Intelligence Sweep (30 min, monthly)

  1. Open the Competitors tab's Share of Voice and sort by highest share to find your biggest current threat in AI answers
  2. Check that competitor's Win Rate breakdown - is the gap driven by Competitor Only losses, or by Neither (a prompt gap for both of you)?
  3. Open a few shared responses and read the comparative phrases on their mentions to see exactly how AI positions them against you
  4. Cross-reference with Citations to see which of their pages AI is pulling from
  5. Brief content or product marketing with concrete phrasing to counter, not just "beat this competitor"

New Competitor Triage (as needed)

  1. When Discovered Entities surfaces an unfamiliar brand, promote it to a tracked competitor
  2. Give it a monitoring cycle, then return here to check its Share of Voice before deciding how much attention it deserves
