Definitions for every term used across GrackerAI.
AEO (Answer Engine Optimization)
Optimizing content to be cited directly in AI-generated answers across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, and similar surfaces. The goal is citation and brand mention, not click-through rate.
AI Overview
Google's in-search AI-generated summary that appears above traditional blue links. Surfaces in roughly 16% of all searches. higher for informational and comparison queries.
Brand Specific Prompt
A prompt naming your own brand directly. Example: "Acme Auth pricing."
Citation
A web page that an AI surface pulled from when generating its response. High citation count means AI engines trust that page as an authority source.
Citation Rate
The percentage of your tracked prompts that returned at least one citation pointing to your domain.
Co-mention
When your brand and a competitor are both mentioned within the same AI response. Tracked in the Mentions tab of Analytics.
Competitor Comparison Prompt
A prompt naming one or more competitors. Example: "Splunk vs Sentinel."
E-E-A-T
Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness. Google's quality framework for content. AI surfaces apply similar weighting. factual accuracy, source credibility, and citation signals influence what gets included in generated responses.
Funnel Stage
A tag on each prompt indicating where a buyer is in their journey: Awareness (learning about a problem), Consideration (evaluating options), or Decision (ready to buy).
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)
Optimizing for citation in generative AI search surfaces (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and others). Closely related to AEO. the terminology overlaps in practice.
Group (Monitor Group)
A container that organises prompts by theme (competitor, vertical, use case) and defines monitoring settings (surface selection, frequency). Previously called "Monitor" in earlier versions of GrackerAI.
Head-to-Head
A comparative metric showing how often your brand is mentioned vs a specific competitor across the same set of prompts. Shown in the Mentions tab of Analytics.
Informational Intent
A prompt where the buyer is learning, not yet shopping. Example: "How does SAML SSO work?"
Mention
An instance of your brand name appearing in an AI response. Different from a Citation. a mention is about who is named, a citation is about who is sourced.
Monitor Group
A configured set of prompts that runs on a schedule against selected AI surfaces. See Monitor Groups.
Organic Prompt
A prompt that doesn't name any specific brand. Covers category and educational queries. Example: "Best vulnerability scanner for cloud workloads."
Position Battle
A ranking of how often your brand appears in position 1, 2, 3, etc. within AI responses. measuring authority beyond just presence.
Presence Rate
The percentage of your tracked prompts where your brand was mentioned at least once. The most fundamental visibility metric.
Prominence
A metric that accounts for not just whether your brand was mentioned, but how prominently. first mention vs buried in a list of five.
Prompt
A real question your buyers might ask an AI surface. The fundamental unit of measurement in GrackerAI.
Response
What an AI surface answered when given one of your prompts. Captured in full. text, brands mentioned, sentiment, and cited URLs.
Sentiment
The tone AI uses when describing your brand. scored from -100 (very negative) to +100 (very positive). 0 is neutral.
Share of Voice
The percentage of total brand mentions across all tracked prompts held by one brand. A brand appearing in 60 of 100 responses holds 60% share of voice.
Top Domain Share
The percentage of total citations held by the single most-cited domain in a category. High top domain share indicates concentrated authority. one source dominates AI citations.
Type (Source Type)
Classification of a cited URL: Website, Corporate, Media, or Forum.
Unique Domains
The number of distinct websites cited by AI surfaces across your tracked responses. A measure of citation breadth.
Visibility Score
The primary metric measuring how often your brand appears across tracked AI responses. Expressed as a percentage (0–100%). See Visibility Score for how the four signals combine.
