General Settings
Configure portal-wide settings under Portal Settings → General.
Required Settings
- Portal name — How the portal identifies itself in titles, meta tags, schema
- URL structure — Subdomain (
compare.acme.com) or path (acme.com/compare). Subdomain treats it as a separate site for SEO; path inherits parent domain authority. - Default language — English (US) is most common for B2B SaaS
- Time zone — Affects scheduling and analytics
Recommended Settings
- Robots policy — Allow indexing on all public portals
- Default meta description template — Use variables like
{title}and{category}for consistent, dynamic descriptions - Default Open Graph image — Branded fallback image for social sharing
URL Structure Decision
Use a subdomain when:
- The portal is editorially independent (e.g., a glossary or news site)
- You want to track it as a separate property in Search Console
- You're testing without affecting your primary site
Use a path when:
- The portal directly supports the main site (e.g., comparison pages for your product)
- You want to share domain authority
- SEO consolidation matters more than separation
For most product-focused portals, use a path.
Quick Validation
After saving general settings, visit your portal URL and confirm:
- Page title matches your configured portal name
- Meta description renders correctly
- Time zone affects published-date display
