Which tools track Google AI Overviews visibility?
Tools that track Google AI Overviews fall into two groups. SEO suites such as Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking report which tracked keywords trigger an AI Overview and whether your domain is cited. AI visibility platforms such as GrackerAI, Profound and Otterly.AI track AI Overviews alongside ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and other engines, with a focus on brand mentions, citations and competitors.
Why you need a tool at all
Google’s documentation on AI features and your website says that traffic from AI Overviews and AI Mode is included in Search Console’s Performance report, within the “Web” search type. It is not reported as a separate feature. So Search Console tells you total clicks and impressions, but not:
- Which queries showed an AI Overview
- Whether your page was cited in it, and in what position
- Which competitors were cited instead
Third-party tools fill that gap by running queries and capturing the result page.
The two types of tools
| Type | Examples | Best for | Limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEO suites with AI Overview data | Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking | Keyword-level tracking inside an existing SEO workflow | AI engine coverage beyond Google varies by product and plan |
| AI visibility platforms | GrackerAI, Profound, Otterly.AI | Brand mentions, citations and share of voice across many AI engines | Prompt-based rather than full keyword databases |
Many teams use both: an SEO suite for rankings and a visibility platform for cross-engine brand tracking.

Our page can Semrush and Ahrefs track AI visibility covers the trade-offs.

How to choose
Ask these questions before you shortlist:
- Keywords or prompts? If you want AI Overview data for thousands of existing SEO keywords, start with an SEO suite. If you want buyer-question tracking across engines, start with a visibility platform.
- AI Mode too? Check whether AI Mode is tracked separately from AI Overviews.
- Citations or just presence? You need to know whether you were cited, in what position, and which URLs were cited instead.
- Location and device? Overviews vary by country and device. Make sure the tool runs from the markets you sell in.
- History and exports? You will need trends for reporting.
A quick manual check before you buy
You can get a rough picture without any tool. Pick 20 queries that matter to your business and, in a clean browser session in your target country:
- Search each query and note whether an AI Overview appears.
- Expand the Overview and record every cited source.
- Note whether your domain is cited, and in which position.
- Repeat a week later to see how stable the results are.
This takes an hour or two and shows whether AI Overviews are common for your topics. If they appear on most of your important queries and you are rarely cited, that is a clear case for proper tracking. If they rarely appear, prioritize other engines first. Keep in mind that a manual check reflects one location, device and moment, so treat it as a sample.
What to do with the data
Tracking only helps if it leads to changes. For each query where an Overview appears and you are not cited:
- Check whether you rank in the top results for that query, since AI Overviews draw on Google’s index
- Compare the cited pages with yours for structure, specificity and freshness
- Add a direct answer near the top of the relevant page and use question-style headings
- Strengthen the page with original data, examples or comparisons the cited pages lack

Summary
No single source gives complete AI Overview data. Search Console gives totals, SEO suites give keyword-level SERP data, and AI visibility platforms give cross-engine brand and citation data. Pick the combination that matches the decisions you need to make.
Frequently asked questions
Does Google Search Console show AI Overviews data?
Google counts AI Overview impressions and clicks within Search Console's Performance report, but it does not break them out as a separate filter. You cannot see from Search Console alone which queries showed an Overview or whether you were cited in it.
Do I need a separate tool for AI Mode?
AI Mode is a different surface from AI Overviews, with longer, conversational answers. Several tools now track both, but check coverage explicitly because some only track AI Overviews.
Are AI Overview tracking results accurate?
They are good samples, not complete truth. AI Overviews vary by location, device, login state and time, so treat tracked results as trends across many queries rather than exact counts.
