How do I improve AI visibility across multiple AI platforms?

You improve AI visibility across multiple platforms by doing the shared work once and the engine-specific work deliberately. The shared work is crawler access, answer-first pages, consistent product facts and coverage on trusted third-party sites. The engine-specific work is checking each engine’s crawler, index and preferred sources, then closing the gaps you find for each.

Why AI platforms give different answers

ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Claude and Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode do not share one index. They differ in where they retrieve pages and which sources they lean on.

EngineMain retrieval sourcePractical implication
Google AI Overviews and AI ModeGoogle Search indexClassic SEO and Googlebot access matter most
GeminiGoogle Search groundingSimilar to Google, plus brand knowledge
Microsoft CopilotBing indexSubmit to Bing Webmaster Tools, use IndexNow
ChatGPTOAI-SearchBot plus search partnersAllow OAI-SearchBot, earn third-party mentions
PerplexityPerplexityBot and its own indexAllow PerplexityBot, keep pages fresh
ClaudeIts own search crawler plus web search toolsAllow Claude-SearchBot if you want to be found

The table is a simplification, and providers change their pipelines, but it shows why a brand can be strong in one engine and absent in another.

The process

1. Build one prompt set for all engines

Use the same prompts everywhere so results are comparable. Cover category questions, comparisons, alternatives, use cases and pricing. See how to choose which prompts to track.

2. Fix the shared foundations

These help every engine at once:

  • Crawler access: allow Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and Claude-SearchBot, and check CDN bot rules
  • Server-rendered content: main text present in the HTML response
  • Answer-first pages: direct answers under question-style headings
  • Consistent facts: same product description, pricing model and feature list on your site, review profiles, partner listings and directories
  • Entity clarity: an About page, Organization schema and consistent brand names so engines know who you are
  • Third-party coverage: reviews, roundups, community threads and publications in your category

3. Diagnose gaps engine by engine

For each engine where you are weak, ask three questions:

  1. Can it reach me? Check server logs for its crawler and confirm you are indexed (Bing for Copilot, Google for AI Overviews).
  2. What does it cite instead? List the URLs it uses for your prompts. These reveal its preferred sources.
  3. What do winners have that I lack? Compare the cited pages with yours: format, depth, freshness, third-party corroboration.

4. Apply engine-specific fixes

  • Google AI Overviews and AI Mode: strengthen classic rankings for the underlying queries and structure pages for extraction. See Google AI Overviews optimization.
  • Copilot: verify Bing indexing, submit sitemaps in Bing Webmaster Tools and use IndexNow for fast updates.
  • ChatGPT: earn presence on the review sites and roundups it cites for your category.
  • Perplexity: update key pages regularly and add specific, sourced facts.
  • Gemini and Claude: reinforce brand and entity signals so the model describes you correctly when it answers from knowledge.

Checklist for multi-engine visibility

  • One prompt set, tracked across all priority engines
  • All relevant AI search crawlers allowed and verified in logs
  • Indexed in both Google and Bing
  • Top 10 commercial pages rewritten answer-first
  • Product facts identical across owned and third-party profiles
  • Outreach list built from URLs cited by each engine
  • Weekly reporting by engine, not just a blended total

How to report it

Report visibility per engine and as a weighted total. Weighting by the engines your buyers use avoids overrating a strong showing in an engine your audience ignores. Useful metrics are mention rate, citation rate, average position and share of voice against named competitors. Our page on GEO metrics and KPIs explains each.

Monitoring tools save time here because running 100 prompts across several engines every week by hand is not realistic. GrackerAI, for example, tracks up to 10 engines including ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Copilot and Claude. Whatever tool you use, make sure it shows the cited URLs per engine, since that is where the fixes come from.

A 90-day plan

  • Weeks 1 to 2: build the prompt set, run a baseline on every priority engine, check crawler access and Bing indexing.
  • Weeks 3 to 6: rewrite the ten most important commercial pages answer-first and align product facts across your site and third-party profiles.
  • Weeks 7 to 10: work the outreach list built from cited URLs: review sites, roundups and communities each engine relies on.
  • Weeks 11 to 13: compare results with the baseline per engine, then pick the weakest engine as next quarter’s focus.

Keep a change log alongside the tracking data. When visibility moves in one engine, you want to know which page update, listing or fix happened just before it.

Common mistakes

  • Optimizing for one engine and assuming the rest follow. They often do not.
  • Blending all engines into one score. A single number hides the engine where you are missing.
  • Ignoring Bing. Copilot and several other AI products rely on Bing data.
  • Changing prompts every month. Trends need a stable prompt set.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI platform should I prioritize first?

Start with the engines your buyers use most. For many B2B audiences that means ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews first, then Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot. Survey customers or check AI referral traffic in analytics to confirm.

Do I need different content for each AI engine?

Usually not. The same clear, well-sourced page can be cited by every engine. What differs is the technical access each engine needs and the third-party sources each one favors.

Why is my brand visible in Perplexity but not ChatGPT?

Each engine uses different crawlers, indexes and source preferences. Check that each crawler is allowed, then compare which URLs each engine cites for the same prompt to find the gap.
