OpenAI Is Reportedly Building ChatGPT Analytics for Business Mentions
OpenAI appears to be building a Search Console style tool for ChatGPT. On November 6, 2026, Search Engine Roundtable reported that a work-in-progress feature would let businesses “Claim your business in ChatGPT” and see how often they are mentioned in ChatGPT answers and how many clicks they receive. OpenAI has not announced it, so treat it as a credible report, not a launch.
What happened
The feature was spotted by Juozas Kaziukenas, who posted on LinkedIn that ChatGPT is building an analytics tool to “track how often your business is mentioned in ChatGPT conversations.” Search Engine Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz covered it the same day.
According to those reports, the tool:
- Measures impressions, meaning how often a business appears in ChatGPT responses.
- Measures clicks from ChatGPT to the business website.
- Shows daily data in a chart.
- Sits inside a broader Business Hub where companies can add products, keep business information current and set up a business agent that answers customer questions using context the business controls.
- Requires verified ownership, for example by connecting a Shopify store.
Kaziukenas said he saw first signs of the work as early as August, and that a banner he saw suggested a launch may be near. He also said the tool does not show prompt data, user data, or competitive benchmarks and rankings. Search Engine Roundtable noted that it appears separate from ChatGPT ads and focused on organic answers.
Why it matters for B2B marketers
Today, nobody outside OpenAI has first-party numbers on how often a brand is shown in ChatGPT. Teams rely on prompt sampling and referral traffic in analytics, which undercounts because many ChatGPT users read the answer and never click.
If this tool ships as described, it changes reporting in three ways:
- A real denominator. Impression counts let you see ChatGPT exposure even when nobody clicks, which is the norm for research-stage B2B queries.
- Proof for GEO investment. As Kaziukenas put it, combined with third-party prompt tracking it could give first-party evidence of whether AEO and GEO work is paying off.
- Clear limits. Without prompts or competitor data, you will know that you appeared, not for which question or against whom. Prompt-level monitoring stays necessary to diagnose why.
| Data you need | Reported ChatGPT tool | Prompt-level tracking |
|---|---|---|
| Total impressions in ChatGPT | Yes | Estimated |
| Clicks to your site | Yes | No |
| Which prompts mention you | No | Yes |
| Competitor share of voice | No | Yes |
The pattern resembles Google’s own AI reporting in Search Console, which shows impressions but not yet clicks or queries.
What to do now
- Set a baseline before launch. Run your core buyer prompts in ChatGPT now and record mention rate and cited URLs, so you can compare against first-party numbers later. The free AI visibility checker is one quick way to start.
- Prepare to verify. Identify who owns your ChatGPT presence (SEO, product marketing or web) and what verification may require. B2B SaaS companies without a Shopify store should watch for other verification options.
- Clean up your business facts. Make sure product names, pricing pages, integrations and security or compliance pages are accurate and crawlable. Those are what a business profile and ChatGPT answers will draw on. See how to get your brand mentioned in ChatGPT.
- Tag ChatGPT referrals. Confirm GA4 or your analytics tool attributes chatgpt.com referrals correctly so click counts can be reconciled.
- Keep prompt tracking. Plan to pair first-party impressions with per-prompt monitoring across engines (GrackerAI tracks ChatGPT and nine other AI engines) to explain the numbers.
