Skyscraper
A content creation strategy used in digital marketing to improve search engine rankings by creating superior content.
Description
In the digital marketing world, the term ‘Skyscraper’ refers to a method where marketers find top-performing content in their industry and create something even better. The idea is to identify high-ranking articles, blog posts, or multimedia content, analyze why they perform well, and then produce a more comprehensive, engaging, and valuable version. This improved content aims to attract more backlinks, shares, and user engagement, thereby boosting its search engine rankings. Essentially, it’s like taking an existing tall building (content) and constructing an even taller skyscraper (better content) to stand out in the crowded digital landscape.
Examples
- A marketing firm identifies a popular blog post titled ‘10 Tips for Effective SEO’ that has numerous backlinks and high social shares. - An e-commerce website notices a competitor’s high-ranking article on ‘Best Running Shoes of 2022’. They develop an in-depth guide called ‘Best Running Shoes of 2023: Ultimate Buyer’s Guide’, featuring detailed reviews, user testimonials, and comparison tables to provide more value, attracting more organic traffic and backlinks.
