What is Joint Advanced Application Defect Assessment for Android Application (JAADAS)
ARM TrustZone provides a secure execution environment for applications on ARM processors.
Joint Advanced Defect Assessment Framework for Android Applications
The Joint Advanced Defect Assessment framework for Android applications (JAADAS, originally named JADE but renamed to avoid potential trademark issues) was developed in 2014. JAADAS is a tool built using Java and Scala, leveraging the capabilities of Soot to perform both inter-procedure and intra-procedure static analysis for Android applications.
Key Features of JAADAS: API Misuse and More
JAADAS offers several important features, including API misuse analysis, local denial-of-service (intent crash) analysis, and inter-procedure style taint flow analysis. This last feature tracks the flow from an intent to a sensitive API, such as retrieving a parcelable from an intent and using it to start an activity. Additionally, JAADAS can combine multidex files into a single entity and analyze them collectively. Most of JAADAS's detection capabilities can be configured through a Groovy config file and a text file (specifically, Soot's source and sink file). USAGE: JAADAS is distributed as a single JAR archive, and I provide a default vulnerability rules file for your convenience.
Two Major Modes for JAADAS
FullAnalysis: FullAnalysis harnesses the complete capabilities of JAADAS and Soot. It includes inter-procedure whole-application analysis as well as inter-procedure dataflow analysis. However, it may require a significant amount of time to complete and could potentially not finish on machines with limited memory.
