Navigation

Set up the navigation menu, footer links, and social media connections for your portal.

Header Links

Create the main navigation menu that appears at the top of your portal.

Getting Started:

  • If you haven't added any links yet, you'll see: "No header links configured"

Add Header Link

  • Click "Add Header Link" button to create new navigation item
  • Header links appear in the main navigation bar at top of portal
  • Typically includes: Home, Blog, About, Topics, Contact

What You Can Configure: Each navigation link has:

  • Label/Name (required): The text visitors see (e.g., "About Us", "Blog")
  • URL/Link (required): Where the link goes
  • Type: Internal (links within your portal) or External (links to other websites)
  • Open in New Tab: For external links, choose whether they open in a new browser tab
  • Order: Control the position in your menu (drag to reorder)

Managing Header Links:

  • ✏️ Edit: Update label, URL, type, or settings
  • 🗑️ Delete: Remove link from header navigation

Link Types:

  • Internal: Links within your portal (e.g., /about, /authors)
  • External: Links to other websites (e.g., https://company.com)
  • External links typically open in new tabs

Common Header Links:

  • Home / Articles / Blog
  • Categories / Topics
  • Authors
  • About
  • Resources
  • Contact

Best Practices:

  • Keep to 5-7 main items for clean navigation
  • Use clear, concise labels (1-2 words)
  • Place most important pages first
  • Internal links should use relative paths (/about)
  • External links should open in new tab
  • Maintain consistent order across your portals
  • Test all links after saving

Footer Links

Add links that appear at the bottom of every page.

Getting Started:

  • If you haven't added any links yet, you'll see: "No footer links configured"

Add Footer Link

  • Click "Add Footer Link" button to create footer navigation item
  • Footer links appear at bottom of every page
  • Typically includes: Privacy Policy, Terms, Sitemap, Resources, Legal

What You Can Configure: Each footer link has:

  • Label/Name (required): The link text (e.g., "Privacy Policy", "Terms of Service")
  • URL/Link (required): Where it links to
  • Type: Internal or External
  • Open in New Tab: Choose whether external links open in a new tab
  • Order: Control the position
  • Category/Column (optional): Organize links into groups or columns

Managing Footer Links:

  • ✏️ Edit: Update link details
  • 🗑️ Delete: Remove from footer

Common Footer Links:

  • Privacy Policy
  • Terms of Service
  • Cookie Policy
  • Contact Us
  • Sitemap
  • About
  • Careers

Usage:

  • Footer links are typically legal/informational pages
  • Can include duplicate header links
  • Good for SEO (internal linking)
  • Often includes compliance-required pages
  • Can have more links than header (10-20 is acceptable)
  • Consider multi-column layout for better organization

Social Links

Connect your portal to your social media profiles.

Getting Started:

  • If you haven't added any links yet, you'll see: "No social links configured"

Add Social Link

  • Click "Add Social Link" button to add social media profile
  • Social links appear in footer or header with platform icons
  • Connects visitors to your social media presence

What You Can Configure: Each social link has:

  • Platform/Name (required): Which social platform (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn)
  • URL/Link (required): Full URL to your profile
  • Icon: Automatically detected and displayed based on platform
  • Open in New Tab: Social links always open in a new tab
  • Order: Control which icons appear first

Managing Social Links:

  • ✏️ Edit: Update URL or platform
  • 🗑️ Delete: Remove social connection

Best Practices:

  • Only include active, regularly updated social profiles
  • Use official brand/company accounts (not personal)
  • Keep profiles up-to-date with current branding
  • Remove inactive or abandoned accounts
  • Typical count: 3-6 social platforms
  • Place most active/important platforms first
  • Use consistent branding across all platforms
  • Verify URLs are correct (include https://)

Display

  • Social links appear in footer
  • May appear in header (theme-dependent)
  • Icons automatically matched to platform names
  • Opens in new tab by default

Navigation Management

Adding Links

  1. Navigate to Settings > Navigation
  2. Choose Header Links, Footer Links, or Social Links
  3. Click "Add Link"
  4. Fill in name and URL
  5. For header links, select type (internal/external)
  6. Save changes

Editing Links

  1. Click on existing link to edit
  2. Modify name or URL
  3. Save changes
  4. Changes appear immediately on your portal

Reordering Links

  • Drag and drop to reorder (if supported in UI)
  • Or edit array order directly
  • Order in settings = order on portal

Removing Links

  • Click delete/remove button next to link
  • Confirm deletion
  • Link removed from navigation immediately
