# Mentions

A mention is any place an AI response names your brand or a competitor - whether or not it links to a source. This page covers what a mention actually *is* and what data it carries. You see this detail by opening a response and looking at its mentions - see [Responses](/docs/using-gracker/responses-and-citations/responses) for where that detail surfaces in the product.

**Mentions vs Citations:** a mention is your brand being talked about in the answer text. A citation is a link to a source. AI can mention you without citing you, and cite your competitor's site without mentioning their brand name. Track both.

Looking for aggregate share-of-voice or win-rate numbers against a competitor? That data lives in [Competitor Analysis](/docs/using-gracker/competitor-analysis), not here.

## Mention Detail

Opening an individual mention inside a response shows the full context behind it:

- **Role** - how the mention functions in the response (e.g. top recommendation, comparison target, listed as an alternative, or a warning)
- **Context snippet** - the exact sentence or passage where you were mentioned
- **Attributes** - descriptive labels AI attached to you in that mention (e.g. "enterprise-grade", "steep learning curve")
- **Use cases** - the use cases AI associated with you in that context
- **Factual accuracy** - whether AI's claim about you was correct, outdated, incorrect, or unverifiable from available sources. Outdated or incorrect mentions are worth correcting at the source.

This is per-mention detail, not an aggregate score - it tells you exactly what was said and how accurate it was, one mention at a time. For the full response text a mention came from, plus its citations and co-occurrences, open the response itself in [Responses](/docs/using-gracker/responses-and-citations/responses).

## Common Workflows

### Factual Accuracy Sweep (monthly)
1. Open responses and look at the mention detail for anything flagged **Outdated** or **Incorrect**
2. Read the context snippet to understand what AI got wrong and why
3. Publish or update content that corrects the record - outdated facts about you tend to persist in AI answers until a newer source overrides them

### Weekly Competitive Check (10 min)
1. Open [Competitor Analysis](/docs/using-gracker/competitor-analysis) and check Competitive Dominance for movement since last week
2. If a competitor's score rose, read their Comparative Phrases to see how AI is framing the trade-off
3. Cross-reference with [Responses](/docs/using-gracker/responses-and-citations/responses) on the prompts where that competitor now appears and you don't, and read the mention detail on those responses
